House votes to expand national DNA arrest database

May 23, 2010

Millions of Americans arrested for but not convicted of crimes will likely have their DNA forcibly extracted and added to a national database, according to a bill approved by the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday.

By a 357 to 32 vote, the House approved legislation that will pay state governments to require DNA samples, which could mean drawing blood with a needle, from adults “arrested for” certain serious crimes. Not one Democrat voted against the database measure, which would hand out about $75 million to states that agree to make such testing mandatory.

Good advice for any job seekers out there! I recommend that you Google your name regularly to see what comes up, you can be certain that recruiters and hiring managers are! This will help ensure that you can proactively combat any negative information that might come up; especially since someone might share your name and a person searching for you might not take the time to determine that the negative information is not about YOU!

Google Alerts is a free service that will e-mail you when words that you want to track are indexed, allowing you to be even more proactive with less work. I have alerts set up for “Dave Hatter”, “David Hatter”, Libertas and “Libertas Technologies”. Check it out, it’s free and easy and may just help you get that next job!
